welcome to the moonreader!001. what is tarot? beginning as a medieval card game, tarot is a spiritual practice in which readers examine how the imagery and themes of tarot cards can guide us through our daily lives and strengthen our spirituality.002. is tarot magic? in the sense that magic is an inexplicable coincidence, tarot can be magical. tarot readers study the patterns and habits of humans since the beginning of recorded history. therefore, i may recognize details in your life that seem like "magical" knowledge. in reality, tarot is the practice of reading into the rich bank of shared human experiences.003. can i be religious and still participate in tarot? that depends on your own religious practices! many tarot cards are informed by christian imagery and biblical stories, as is much of the western canon. there is nothing demonic about tarot. if you believe that human intuition can connect us to a higher power, ten you can understand that tarot is not antithetical to religion.004. what if i am not religious at all? no problem! if you don't believe in a higher power, then you surely can still recognize the power of intuition in guiding and connecting humans. intution isn't magic, and my tarot practice is guided heavily by the study of art and history, based in logic and knowledge of human patterns.

ABOUT.

i am an amateur tarot reader. i received my first deck about four years ago, and i've been reading informally for myself and friends since. since the beginning of 2023, i have been studying in a formal setting thanks to a mentorship/seminar offered at my university. i am interested in breaking down tarot for any person to understand how their spirituality can guide their day-to-day life. my practice is guided by intuition, study, and religion.

AUTHOR.

i go by many names but you can call me miriam or indigo! i use they/them and she/her pronouns. my favorite sequence of cards is the star-the moon-the sun (XVII-XIX).

i believe in transforming tradition to fit our new realities. my tarot practice looks at traditional art and literature and asks, what has remained unchanged in human nature? what has changed in our collective consciousness? for example, the strength card tells us that there is power in human connection. what does that mean for our modern, hyperindividualistic yet constantly plugged-in society? i am looking for strengths and weaknesses of human nature that shape our collective consciousness. i want to guide us away from despair and look for how we can rebuild our society by breaking chains.

" are you breathing just a little and calling it a life?"

what does my tarot practice look like?i love storytelling. at first, i will look for the story that your cards tell me. then, i recall relevant stories and works of art that may enrich my understanding of the cards. i may reference other decks, especially the rider-waite deck, to enhance the meaning of the cards. i may reference books or works of art relating to your cards.if it comes to me, i may "download" another story - like a vision, i may remember some old story that i haven't heard for a long time. the imagery of the tarot has the power to pull stories from our deep subconscious. these stories enrich our understanding of the present day and how to tackle the challenges that life presents.

i offer two types of readings. 2-3 card spreads are $10 (clarifying cards are free). 4+ card spreads are $15. if you are a student or otherwise worried about cost, message me :)for an additional $5, i can record a video of your card pull with commentary during the card reveals.3-card spread yes/no reading
have a simple yes/no question? i can pull three cards that will give a definite or tentative yes or no based on their upright or reversed position. the cards themselves can give more detail in the cards' answer.
2-card spread elegĂșa/legba spread
facing an obstacle that you aren't sure how to overcome? the elegĂșa spread offers clarity on the nature of the obstacle and the door that opens when the obstacle is overcome.
3-card spread basic spread
the basic three-card spread can offer us insight into any question! using this spread, we can examine three aspects of life (such as relationships, career, school) or the past, present, and future of a single issue.

decision spread 7-10 cards
for more complex decisions. some questions i've answered in the past are: what projects should i pursue this summer? how can i approach my partner about a difficult topic? this spread includes 3-6 cards for possible conscious decisions, 1 card for an unforeseen option, 1 card describing the quality of vision, 1 card describing something that you haven't taken into consideration, 1 card describing a need that must be met, and 1 card describing something that will help you make your decision.
celtic cross spread 10 cards
the celtic cross offers a deep-dive into a specific situation. some readings i have done in the past are: what will be the outcome of my psychiatric evaluation? how can i balance my needs and my family needs during their visit? this examines the past, present, and future of a situation, and how elements of the past and future play off of each other, painting a full story of a complex situation.
soul/personality/zodiac cards 3 cards
this a methodical reading based on mathematical process. based on your birth date, i will tell you what your soul's inclination, life guide, and zodiac card are based on the major arcana.

FAQ
what is a clarifying card?
if you would like more insight or clarity on the meaning of a specific card, i can pull another card to read in conjunction for more detail on the answer.
do you read reversals?
most cards are only designed to be read upright, so i don't read reversals. if you strongly want reversals included in your reading, i recommend the linestrider deck, which the author intentionally designed with reversals in mind.
what information comes with one reading?
with one reading, you get a picture of my handwritten notes, an annotated picture of the spread, and a 1-2 page typed recommendation. (i love writing, so i can offer more than 2 pages if you would like).
what is your normal turnaround time?
i normally get back to you on the same day for $10 readings :) longer readings have a 2-day turn around time due to how energy-consuming long readings can be.
